Long Branch Athletic Association

Through the Long Branch Athletic Assocation (LBAA), we are harnessing the convening power of sports to empower parents and young people in the Long Branch neighborhood of Silver Spring. 

The goal of the Long Branch Athletic Association program is to establish a functioning community that:

1. Supports the development of children through sports

2. Has venues through which parents can more effectively engage in their children’s development

3. Helps parents support each other in overcoming social and economic obstacles

In 2011, the IMPACT and the Long Branch Athletic Association supported 130 youth from kindergarten to fifth grade participating on eight youth soccer teams. Parent coaches and parent coordinators led each team with support from IMPACT staff members.

Parents are:

• spending more time with their children
• building new relationships with other families
• taking on leadership roles
• and connecting to community resources

LBAA is part of IMPACT's Family Asset Building effort, helping weave a network of families and resources to build social capital in Long Branch.
